| Description: |
This beautifully decorated stoneware apple butter jar was excavated at the Gast Pottery site in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and remains in as-made condition. It is decorated nearly all the way around with a folky stylized floral design. It holds approximately one gallon. The apple butter jar is an extremely rare stoneware form. The beautiful decoration, rare form and important provenance make this an exceptional piece of Pennsylvania pottery. It was made c1870. |

8 1/8" tall. |

Condition: |
|
As-made condition. There is a small, in-the-making ping on the side. This small defect is probably why the piece ended up in the Pottery's waster piles, from which it was eventually excavated. |
