Deeply impressed: COWDEN & WILCOX HARRISBURG, PA. This one gallon storage crock is decorated with heavily applied dark cobalt blue grapes and leaves on most of the front surface. Ends of handles are also decorated. Made circa 1865. The clay color is light and very clean. One gallon Cowden & Wilcox crocks of this quality are very difficult to find. Larger sizes are not as difficult to find as one gallon pieces. A super piece of early American stoneware!
