| Description: |
Extremely small, nicely decorated miniature stoneware cream pitcher, made in Baltimore c1850. Measures only 2 ¾" tall and 1 5/8" across the bottom. Very hard-to-find ovoid shape with rim flaring outward. Strikingly decorated with two well-formed flower heads w/ stems and three large dots descending from the spout. Half of the outside of the rim is blue decorated and the entire inside of the rim is decorated, as well. The handle has been expertly restored, but judging from the nubs that remained, the handle was also decorated. The pitcher is in mint condition except for the handle restoration. Not many pitchers of this size and quality have survived. This pitcher is very clean, with good contrast. It was made by an experienced master potter. The photos below show the pitcher photographed alongside a 1 gallon pitcher and in someone's hand, for scale. Click on "(More Photos)" to view the pitcher from all angles, in detail. |
