Rare 1 Gal. Profusely Decorated Early Baltimore Jar |
||||
Back to Maryland Stoneware |
Item #BXJ01 |
|||
| Description: |
Decorated with 3 well-detailed slip-trailed daisies underlined with a slip-trailed wavy line around the entire jar. Made in Baltimore, Maryland c1840. Stoneware made prior to 1850 that can be definitely attributed to Baltimore is rare and difficult to find. This piece was definitely made in Baltimore and was decorated by a highly-skilled potter. The slip-trailed, cobalt blue decoration is thick and bright. Also, there is a primitive 1 gallon capacity mark stamped near the top. This is a nice example of Baltimore stoneware, beautifully decorated and the kind of piece that rarely becomes available. |
