Description:

This stoneware churn was made at the Alexander P. Donaghho pottery in Parkersburg, West Virginia, circa 1880, for Baltimore merchant Charles H. Torsch. Stenciling on the front of the churn, applied in cobalt at Donaghho's pottery, reads,

C.H. TORSCH
Balto. Md.

The churn has a desirable, small size, measuring about 1 1/2 gallons. Small ears are applied to the sides. The interior of the vessel is glazed with albany slip. A scarce form with uncommon advertising.

Size:

12 ½" tall.

Condition:

Two chips on one handle. Heavy chipping on other handle. Expected wear from use on interior rim and bottom of interior.
