Highly Decorated H. MYERS 1-Gal. Storage Jar, c1840 |
||||
Back to Maryland Stoneware |
Item #BHMJ01 |
|||
| Description: |
This outstanding, one gallon storage jar is decorated over roughly half of its body with 6 groups of large, stylized leaves. It is impressed just below the rim with a backwards "1," indicating the gallon capacity, surrounded by an usual dotted oval. Deeply impressed below the capacity mark, in large capital letters, is the mark, "H. MYERS." There are 2 incised lines near the top and a series of incised lines forming the nicely shaped foot. H. Myers stoneware is very rare and its origin remains something of a mystery. This jar was probably made in Baltimore or southeastern PA. |
