Clover-Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock, Signed "P. HERRMANN" |
||||
Back to Maryland Stoneware |
Item #BHC01 |
|||
| Description: |
This small-sized stoneware butter crock is decorated with two stemmed clovers on the front and two on the back, along with leaf-like dabs at the handle terminals. It is fitted with small, rounded handles on each side, and a short, slightly-squared rim. Deeply impressed below the rim is the maker's mark
surrounding a one gallon capacity mark. Made circa 1875 in Baltimore, MD. A good example of Herrmann stoneware in a desirable, butter crock form. The stemmed clover decoration on this piece is unusual for this form. |
