Description:

Decorated all around with very bright cobalt blue stylized floral decoration. Impressed on the front,

H.C. Smith
Alexa.
D.C.

This mark was used at the stoneware pottery of merchant Hugh Smith when Alexandria, Virginia was part of the District of Columbia, from 1831-46. The decoration is very bold and covers about one half of this jar, extending even under the ears.

Size:

11 ¾" tall.

Condition:

Several cracks on one side, which have been sealed. A few minor chips.
