Alexandria, VA Spittoon, UNKNOWN MARK: S. Milburn |

Item #ALMS01 |

| Description: |
This nicely shaped stoneware spittoon is impressed with the maker's mark, "S. MILBURN," not "S.C. MILBURN." The S.C. MILBURN mark (a very rare Alexandria mark itself) was used by Stephen Calvert Milburn, son of the famous potter B.C. Milburn, 1867-73. The S. MILBURN potter's mark is an undocumented mark, probably also used by Stephen Calvert Milburn near the end of his career, circa 1873. This piece would be an excellent addition to an Alexandria stoneware collection. |
