Slip-Trailed 1 ½ Gal. B.C. Milburn Jar, c1850

Back to Virginia Stoneware

Item #ALMJ02

Description:

Beautiful, bright cobalt blue slip-trailed decorated storage jar, marked on the front,

B.C. Milburn
Alexa.
1 ½

Very striking flowers and leaves decorate the front of this jar from handle to handle. The back is decorated with a highly unusual floral type decoration and the entire rim is decorated all around with a stylistic wavy line. In fact, the entire jar is decorated by slip trailing, a technique that is much more uncommon than brushwork. A very well-thrown and exquisitely decorated stoneware jar, made by an expert potter.

Size:

11 ½" tall.

Condition:

There is a line extending from the rim, touching the edge of one ear and traveling down. The entire line is about 5 ½" long. There is a chip on the back at the base. The remainder is in excellent, original condition.
