Extremely Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Double Face Devil Jug, Signed and Dated "JOHN MEADERS / 23 / 4 / #9 / 2 FACE DEVIL," Cleveland, GA origin, late 20th century, ovoid jug with open strap handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a hand-modeled and applied devil's face featuring horns, pointed ears, hooked nose, smiling mouth with kaolin teeth, and kaolin eyes with vertical cobalt pupils. Surface covered in a mottled olive-green alkaline glaze. Relatively few John Meaders face jugs are known, and the devil form ranks among the potter's finest works.
