Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Reclining Deer Scene, Stamped "EDMANDS & CO," Charlestown, MA, circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and tall collar with flattened rim, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a deer with turned head, reclining atop a stylized ground with split-rail fence in the foreground and trees and fences to the left and right. Folky spotted and striped details to deer's body. Desirable figural motif with excellent color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a recently-surfaced Brooklyn, NY collection. Some fry to cobalt, most prominent on the vertical posts of the fence below the deer. A thin 4" crack on underside, extending 2" up base of jar on front. Some light staining from use.
