Rare Stoneware Presentation Bank with Incised Bird, Dated 1812, Connecticut origin, with rounded foot, button-shaped finial and unusual rainbow handle, decorated with an incised bird with feather detail below the incised date 1812. Reverse incised "M.O.W.". Surface appears to be covered in an Albany slip glaze. This bank includes documentation made in 1884 of the bank's maker and owner. It reads "This 'Bank' made of pottery, I purchased of Mrs. Benj F. Webster of Hartford Conn., bought 1884. The initials M.O.W. stand for Michael Qwansetter Williams, for whom it was made, by his grand father, a potter near New London, Conn. 'M.O.W.' being an uncle of Mrs. Webster, it came through her mother Elizabeth Williams who was a daughter of Richard W. Williams born in New Haven in 1784." Mint condition. H 5 1/4".
